After a horrific start to the season, the New York Mets and their fans are currenlty on Cloud 9 right now. In the midst of a five game winning streak filled with slump breakers and come from behind victories, the optimism is contagious all across Citi Field.

Unfortunately, the Mets will be hitting the road this week to take on the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies. While those two teams might be considered easier on paper, the Mets need to make sure to stay at the same level, especially considering the what lies ahead for this team.

The Mets have to keep the momentum going on this road trip because their June schedule is daunting

After an easy early season schedule that included series losses to the Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals, many Mets fans were less than optimistic about their chances vs Tampa Bay and Cleveland. However, the Mets were able to band together against some very tough opponents, which they will have to do again going forward in June.

For the month of June, 22 of the Mets 26 games will be against teams above .500, including the St Louis Cardinals who are below .500 but 8-2 in their last 10 games. There will be dangers at every turn, with the Subway Series and a matchup with the reigning champion Houston Astros along the way. With series on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves as well, this figures to be their hardest month of the 2023 season.

With the schedule getting tougher, that makes it all the more important that the Mets don't take their foot off the gas pedal on this mini road trip. The team still has some ground to gain in the standings regardless, but they need to have the same positivity and optimism going into June. If they take a step back in any way, there will be trouble getting momentum back for some incredibly tough matchups to come.
