There are a ton of rumors floating around about what the New York Mets are planning to do at the upcoming trade deadline. For weeks, experts and fans alike have been trying to identify potential targets that can help fill some of the team's holes and help them make another deep run. With so many names being thrown out and more than one hole on the roster, many have assumed that the Mets will be making multiple deals at the deadline.

However, what is hardly discussed is the possibility of the Mets addressing all their need in one big trade. Acquiring a couple of bullpen arms as well as a bat for a plethora of young talent. The best partner for a deal like this would be the Minnesota Twins, whose playoff hopes are quickly fading. But what would a blockbuster deal with the Twins look like?

The Mets acquire Willi Castro, Danny Coulombe, and Griffin Jax from the Twins for Luisangel Acuna, Jesus Baez, AJ Ewing, Will Watson, and Marco Vargas

This deal addresses the two biggest needs on the Mets' roster: relief pitching and center field. It's been reported that the Mets are interested in adding two relievers at the upcoming deadline. With Jax and Coulombe, the Mets' bullpen becomes a lot stronger. They'll have two reliable relievers to keep the game scoreless and be set-up guys for Diaz in the ninth.

Coulombe is currently having the best season of his career. Through 29 innings, he's pitched to a 0.93 ERA with 30 strikeouts, eight walks, a .966 WHIP, and an ERA+ of 457. Most importantly, Coulombe is a lefty, something the Mets have been in desperate need of since AJ Minter went down with a season-ending lat injury. Coulombe can be the high-leverage lefty reliever that Mendoza can go to late in games.

While not as effective as Coulombe, Jax has had a pretty good season. In 44 innings, he has an ERA of 4.09, with 68 strikeouts, 12 walks, a 1.227 WHIP, and an ERA+ of 104. However, most of Jax's values come from the team of control. Jax has two years left of team control after this season. He can become one of the most critical pieces of the bullpen, and someone the Mets can build the pen around.

Castro gives the Mets versatility off the bench. Over his seven years in the bigs, he has played every position in the outfield as well as second base, third base, and shortstop. He's also having his best offensive season since the COVID-shortened 2020 season. In 80 games, he has a slash line of .257/.346/.429 with ten home runs, 27 RBIs, and an OPS+ of 112. He is also in the 74th percentile of sprint speed, giving him the ability to be a pinch runner late in the game.

Although it's hard to move on from young guys like Acuna and Ewing, this is a move the Mets need to make. Castro essentially negates Acuna's role on the team, and Ewing's value is at its highest. The other three players in the deal are years away from making an impact in the majors. With prospects closer to making the majors ahead of them, it doesn't make much sense to hold on to them. If the Mets are serious about returning to the playoffs, this trade would go a long way to achieving that goal.
