MLB All-Star voting has begun with the Midsummer Classic only a little over a month away. There aren’t too many great New York Mets candidates. Juan Soto, even with some missed time, is the only player who deserves the attention.
This didn’t stop the Mets from letting the fans know all about the polls opening up. Over on X, they shared an image and link which has a few too many players included.

The Mets probably should have left off a few of these faces
You can leave Carson Benge on there as the rookie has become increasingly popular. Coming off of a two-home run game, the timing fits. Will he actually be an All-Star? A big June won’t make it impossible.
The presence of Bo Bichette and Marcus Semien is laughable but we also get it. They’re playing everyday and were big-ticket offseason additions. Both have upcoming promotional giveaways that may or may not end up in someone’s fire pit.
The real elephant in the room is seeing Mark Vientos’ face. Coming off of a day where he lost any of his final defenders (raises hand), a quick little crop of the image might’ve done the Mets some good when it comes to checking the pulse of fans.
It’s always tough to suggest fans should vote for certain players when you don’t have a whole lot of options. Pitchers still aren’t voted on, which is a bit of an archaic thought. Why not give fans a chance to decide which arms they see?
Every team still sends a representative and other than Soto and Benge with a fat “maybe,” you cannot even spin the idea of more position players going to Philadelphia in mid-July. There are certainly a couple of pitchers capable of battling their way into the conversation.
As Max Goodman of NJ.com wrote about today, no player has been less valuable in the sport since April 7th than Vientos. Semien has had some moments while Bichette remains stuck in quicksand.
When in doubt, use a picture of Mr. Met. Whether the Mets are winning or losing, he represents the mood.
