Only 2 teams have confirmed Pete Alonso meetings Tuesday (no, not the Mets)

Very interesting.

One of the biggest questions facing the New York Mets is whether or not they're truly motivated to reunite with Pete Alonso. First base is certainly something that needs to be addressed, but the alternatives that David Stearns can sort through are long.

Well, now with the Winter Meetings underway, we're starting to get some clarity as to where Alonso ranks on the Mets' shopping list, and also what his market is truly starting to look like.

According to the New York Post, Alonso is taking meetings at the winter summit, and only two teams are confirmed to have a pow wow with Alonso on the books. The interested parties would be the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. The Mets, well, they're conspicuously absent.

Pete Alonso's visit to the Winter Meetings only consists of sit-downs with two teams, and the Mets aren't one of them

This is peak hot stove season, so it is rather telling that Alonso's agenda isn't more packed while he's down in Orlando. Much like last offseason, Alonso is ambitiously seeking a seven-year deal, but the light turnout so far might make that hard to find.

This seemingly gives credence to a report from the New York Post's Joel Sherman that cited an American League executive claiming that no one is going to give Alonso a five-plus-year deal.

Seemingly, Alonso will be left with some disappointment. If there was a time for the buzz to take off, this would be it. The absence of his ideal offer indicates that his resurgent 2025 campaign hasn't been enough to assuage the concerns that were present in the market regarding his ability to hold up over a long-term deal the last go around.

As for the Mets, just because they aren't sniffing around Alonso at this point in time doesn't mean they won't circle back once reality sets in for the Polar Bear. This time last winter, things were frigid between the two parties, but they could once again come to the realization that they are meant for each other, on a short-term commitment, of course.

There's still a lot that can play out, but we're going to start seeing the open chairs get taken, and we'll quickly find out if, once again, Alonso is left without a seat once the music stops.
