We should hope the Mets rumors of shopping A.J. Ewing and Jacob Reimer don’t come true
In the same report from The Athletic, two Mets prospects had their names brought up as hot ticket items. A.J. Ewing (Jett Williams 2.0) and Jacob Reimer (another guy we’d hope becomes a third base option down the line) are quite popular.
MLB Pipeline updated their rankings, conveniently, raising them up to number 6 and 9; Reimer getting the higher spot.
The pair are having extraordinarily good seasons, but aren’t exactly in the right spot to be untouchable. They’re behind the next wave of prospects like Williams whose own success makes Ewing feel expendable. As for Reimer, it feels like the Mets have been down the road of a high-ranking third base prospect many times before. They still haven’t found an exact solution in the majors despite trying out three different players regularly in 2025.
Prospect rankings are a bit arbitrary and always subjective. It’s their numbers this season that, if you aren’t convinced yet, should have you hesitating to part with them so quickly.
Ewing batted .400 with a .506 OBP in St. Lucie and has continued to roar albeit with less video game-like numbers in Brooklyn. Through 292 trips to the plate in 65 games, he is hitting .294/.401/.408 with a pair of homers. He has swiped 41 bases.
Reimer is struggling a bit in Binghamton after graduating from Brooklyn early this year. He still has a .797 OPS through 21 games
