1 NY Mets prospect at every level making a name for himself in 2025

The New York Mets have plenty of top prospects excelling in their system. These four are also doing exceptionally well at each level of their minor league system.

Many of the New York Mets’ top prospects are making waves in their minor league system. Jonah Tong, Jett Williams, Nolan McLean, and Carson Benge. Williams and Benge were two of the Mets’ most recent first-round draft picks. However, each level of the Mets’ minor league system has standout prospects beyond their top names. You’re not going to find these names on many top 30 Mets prospect lists.

Wellington Aracena

Wellington Aracena was an international pick-up by the Mets in the 2021-2022 offseason. The flamethrowing right-hander struggled badly last year between the Florida Complex League and A-Ball St. Lucie but is doing great so far this season. In 47 innings pitched, Aracena owns a 2.87 ERA, 2.82 FIP, and 1.21 WHIP. He’s gotten plenty of K’s, with a 30.5% K% and 36.9% whiff rate. Aracena has yet to allow a home run, either, with an impressive zero percent barrel rate. Aracena has hit triple-digits multiple times this season, topping out at 101 MPH. But like with many high-octane young arms, Aracena has also dished out a walk to 14.2% of batters faced.

Joel Diaz

Joel Diaz entered 2023 as a consensus top-15 prospect in the Mets’ system. However, he missed all of that season due to Tommy John surgery. He then struggled upon his return in 2024. However, Diaz seems to be back on track this season. Diaz owns a 3.42 ERA, 2.52 FIP, and 1.08 WHIP across 52.2 innings at Brooklyn this season. He has struck out 26% of opponents but has an outstanding 3.7% walk rate. The right-hander has also only allowed two home runs. Diaz has the second lowest walk rate among all High-A pitchers with at least 50 IP and ranks second in K:BB ratio, third in FIP, seventh in K%-BB%, and tenth in WHIP. Diaz is only 21, so a rebound like this is extremely promising for him.

Jack Wenninger

Jack Wenninger was a sixth-round pick by the Mets in 2023. He had a promising 2024 campaign, splitting his time between St. Lucie and Brooklyn, and is now dominating at Binghamton. Wenninger currently owns a 2.90 ERA, 3.08 FIP, and 1.07 WHIP. He has struck out nearly 30% of opponents with a 29.9% K% and pairs that with a 6.3% walk rate. The only other qualified Double-A pitcher with a higher K% is teammate Jonah Tong. Wenninger also ranks third in K%-BB%, second in xFIP at 2.76, and 9th in FIP. Although Wenninger is the highest-ranked top prospect in today’s article, he still only ranks as the Mets’ 27th best prospect per MLB Pipeline and their 26th per Baseball America.

Grant Hartwig

Grant Hartwig technically isn’t a prospect, as he appeared in parts of 32 games and pitched 42 innings between 2023 and 2024. However, Hartwig is one of the Mets’ best-performing Triple-A pitchers this season. The right-hander owns a 3.42 ERA, but with a 5.03 FIP and 1.56 WHIP. Hartwig has some solid peripherals, like a 29.2% K%, 8.8% walk rate, and 6.1% barrel percentage. However, his HR/9 sits at 1.90 and has a batting average on balls in play of .349. A 25% HR:FB ratio indicates some bad luck as well.
