He heard it through the grapevine…the New York Mets aren’t best of friends. According to the NY Post’s Joel Sherman, the 2025 Mets did in fact have locker room issues in 2025 despite telling the media otherwise.
It’s not unheard of for any group of individuals to have strife from within. The continuous notion that there was some kind of issue behind the scenes has only gained more steam as the Mets dismantle the big league roster in place of…anyone’s guess.
Just a year ago, the sun was permanently shining over Citi Field. They came off a spectacular run in 2024 and were awarded the winning bid for Juan Soto in free agency. What could possibly go wrong?
Continued rumors of locker room dysfunction and how the Mets have behaved with players seems to confirm a lack of cohesion
The biggest change made to the Mets from 2024 to 2025 was Soto. Is he the problem? That’s a big leap to make. The idea that Francisco Lindor didn’t get along with him or Jeff McNeil made the runs almost two full weeks ago on Black Friday.
Sherman’s reporting of the agents hearing something entirely different from the media is curious. Why reveal this unless there is an ulterior motive behind it? Sure, agents would have their reasons. They always do. The lack of clarity is what has continued to puzzle the outsiders. Was there a singular moment or person which made things so ugly behind the scenes? With the Mets trading away Brandon Nimmo and then letting go of Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso, could they have been heavily involved in the turmoil?
We’d like to think these changes to the Mets roster are for baseball reasons. Maybe not.
One of the issues may stem from above the players. A reason Edwin Diaz allegedly didn’t come back to the Mets was because it wasn’t communicated to him that they were going to sign Devin Williams. Adam Ottavino ripped into the handling of the Mets bullpen by Carlos Mendoza last year. Although he wasn’t present, the candid way he spoke about it seems as if this was already a belief between players from the 2024 campaign.
Whenever the Mets play poorly, the thought has been that something was “off” behind the scenes. We heard about it in 2023 and again in 2025. We saw it in 2021 with Lindor being one of the leaders in the thumbs down campaign against the fans. Someone’s going to leak out more than Lindor and Soto’s difference in their passion for fashion. The more exes the Mets create, the more likely we’re going to hear all about it.
