NY Mets fans are finding every connection they can to link Kyle Tucker to Queens

The $50 million AAV is really what matters, but still...

The MLB universe gasped on Tuesday as FanSided's Robert Murray revealed that the New York Mets have slapped a $50 million AAV contract offer on the table in front of Kyle Tucker. Immediately, Mets fans began envisioning Tucker in blue and orange. The excitement is real.

As of Wednesday night, though, Tucker to the Mets is far from a foregone conclusion. The Toronto Blue Jays have also presented an offer to Tucker (per ESPN's Jesse Rogers) that is a long-term situation, though perhaps not as rich as the $400 million figure Tucker's camp has been seeking since the start of the offseason (the financial details of the Jays' offer have not been publicized).

The Los Angeles Dodgers are also lurking, probably with a short-term, high-AAV offer sheet of their own for Tucker to consider. This has Mets fans making up a bunch of reasons (mostly superfluous) explaining why their club has an advantage in the Tucker sweepstakes.

We're pretty sure the $50 million per year is the main (and only relevant) factor influencing Tucker when it comes to choosing the Mets, but that hasn't stopped the fans from surmising. The X account @SleeperMets compiled an entertaining list of "advantages" that the Mets have when it comes to Tucker.

Ready to review the list? First off, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns was the assistant general manager for the Houston Astros when they drafted Tucker in 2015. Also, Mets hitting coach Troy Snitker was Tucker's coach from 2019-2024, Mets scouting VP Kris Gross was in Houston with Tucker, and Jeff Albert (another Mets hitting coach) coached Tucker in the 'Stros' farm system between 2015 and 2018.

Are you convinced that Tucker to the Mets is a done deal now? Not quite, we know. Still, it's not nothing that the Mets have a few Tucker connections inside their building. Perhaps it's meant to be that Tucker will land in Queens, or perhaps the Dodgers will stroll into the conversation in the coming days and push New York aside with a richer offer.

If so, all of this Tucker buzz will have served as a painfully tantalizing ordeal for Mets fans, who are already imagining how nice it would be to move Juan Soto to left field to make room for Tucker in right.
