The Los Angeles Dodgers finished off a dominant sweep of the New York Mets on Wednesday, extending New York's horrid losing streak to eight games. LA outscored the Mets 14-3 in the series, leaving no doubt about their National League supremacy.
But for whatever reason, baseball superiority isn't enough for the Dodgers' media team. They also feel the need to troll the opposition on the jumbo screen at Dodger Stadium while they're rubbing that opponent's face into the dirt of the Uniqlo Field diamond.
That's what the Dodgers did on April 13 during the first game of the three-game set against the Mets, as they played a video hyping up Edwin Díaz's departure from the Mets to the Dodgers, a move that Díaz has since explained by simply saying he desired to win (a thinly veiled shot at New York more than it was an homage to the Dodgers' ongoing dynasty).
The video, which featured Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reiterating Díaz's championship aspirations, came across as petty and unnecessary.
The Dodgers are playing a video hyping the fact that they took Edwin Diaz from the Mets.

Dave Roberts in the video: "There's a reason Edwin Diaz wanted to come here. He's chasing a ring.
That is quite the troll.
Dodgers' Edwin Díaz hype video with Mets in town wasn't a winning move
The timing of the video also ended up looking questionable, as Díaz didn't appear in the closely-contested second game of the series. (He also blew a save recently, his first in Dodger blue). Diaz is currently dealing with velocity issues, and the Dodgers' leadership is playing it safe in case he has an injury (Díaz has claimed that he's healthy).
What was the point of this hype video, really? It's not like the Mets or their fanbase need any reminding that Díaz bolted -- it was a huge domino chip falling at the start of a somewhat shocking offseason for the franchise that hasn't yet been validated by its new-look roster. As it currently stands, Díaz's departure was the beginning of the Mets' downfall. Mets fans don't need to be told once again that their star closer defected to the Dodgers to go chase a title.
Furthermore, Mets fans already suffered enough by having to watch Díaz's epic entrance to his first Dodgers appearance, just as they were pained when Díaz donned a Dodgers uniform for the first time in an offseason photo.
At this point, the Dodgers are just kicking Mets fans while they're down over the Díaz stuff. There was no need for the hype video after everything that's already happened, and when LA visits Citi Field for a three-game series in the summer (July 24-26, to be exact), Díaz won't exactly have a red carpet rolled out for his arrival. In fact, if Roberts and the Dodgers want to protect Díaz, they'll keep him off the field in that series, too.
