It's not uncommon to see an MLB All-Star get dealt the same year they were elected into the game. Last year alone, two 2024 All-Stars, Tanner Scott and Isaac Paredes, were dealt around the deadline. The New York Mets should be plenty active at the trade deadline, as they still have holes to fill in the lineup. Adding a bat at the deadline could be the difference between making a deep playoff run and getting knocked out in the first round. The Mets should look into these two All-Stars, as they could fill a need on the Mets' roster. While this third player may not be on the trading block right now, the Mets should still monitor his market, as he could soon become available.
The Mets can realistically trade for Eugenio Suarez
The Mets need help at the hot corner. Mark Vientos hasn't been able to replicate his 2024 season, and Brett Baty has fallen off after a once-promising start to the 2025 season. The best third baseman who will be available on the trade market this trade deadline season is Arizona Diamondbacks' slugger Eugenio Suarez.
Suarez has become quite an underrated power hitter. He is having a career year at the plate, batting .250/.320/.569 with a .375 wOBA and a 142 wRC+ on the season. He already has 31 home runs in just 391 trips to the dish. His 26.9% K% is below average, but better than what he typically puts up. However, he's only walking at a 6.4% clip, the lowest rate he has posted since his 2015 sophomore season.
The only downside is that Suarez's defense isn't great. He has -4 defensive runs saved and -4 outs above average. He has performed better in the eyes of OAA in the past, with a combined +14 OAA between 2023 and 2024. -4 OAA is a career-low mark for the veteran infielder. However, he's plenty playable at the hot corner for the Mets.
As of right now, the Mets have a mix of Ronny Mauricio, Baty, and Vientos at third base. Mauricio has done better as of late, but the Mets need help at second base as well. Suarez is also a rental as well, so the Mets would not be committing a ton of assets to acquire him, nor would they block an opportunity for Mauricio, Baty, or Vientos to take over the hot corner in the long run.
