January 11 - The Mets trade Kodai Senga to the Diamondbacks for an outfielder and two prospects

It’s going to be Kodai Senga the Mets subtract from their rotation. They’ll do this for a couple of reasons. One is to free up salary. Another is they’re just fed up with the uncertainty he brings. In return, they add a major league outfielder with options plus a pair of prospects

Arizona’s need for pitching will have them taking a chance on Senga while subtracting from their current outfield depth and surrendering two prospects. Think of someone ranking in the 10-15 range as well as a lower-level guy with nice upside.

There hasn’t been a whisper connecting Senga to any team on the trade market and it’s pure speculation at this point as to where he could end up. The Diamondbacks already spent on reuniting with Merrill Kelly. They’re a good match to acquire a major league pitcher from the Mets with the lone sacrifice from their MLB roster being an outfielder. They have at least one too many.

An outfielder like Alek Thomas who has played a strong center field in the past could make sense for the Mets. He hits left-handed and comes with a minor league option.

The real make or break in the eyes of Mets fans would be the quality of prospects the Mets get back. A pitcher and a position player, it’ll be a duo we watch closely to give this trade its final grade in a few years.
