2) Jose Siri

Yeah, this hasn’t worked out, has it? Jose Siri has been a strikeout machine in his limited action with the Mets. His great glove hasn’t shown itself. Quite the opposite, in fact, on Friday night.

The all-or-nothing type of at-bats can satisfy over the long haul. In the playoffs when you might only get a handful of chances, you can’t take those risks. Some combination of Tyrone Taylor, Cedric Mullins, and even Jeff McNeil is far more pleasing to see in center field than Siri. The only thing that might save Siri from getting left off of the playoff roster is the Mets haven’t had much use for Ronny Mauricio. It could come down to whether the Mets believe they need running and defense more than the left-handed bat off the bench Mauricio can be.

Everything Siri does well has someone who can do it better. Luisangel Acuna is faster with Taylor and Mullins being comparable. Taylor is the better defender. Mullins, despite being as bad as he has been, is a better and more consistent hitter which isn't saying a whole lot. It's like comparing being more upset about stepping on a blue piece of gum than a pink one. Siri is exclusively an alternative plan who seems more likely to cost the Mets a game than win it. Let's see if he can change narrative before the end of the year. Or, maybe Mullins does even less.
