It only took 4 games for every NY Mets fan to rearrange their CF rankings

Has it really only been 4 games back?

Cedric Mullins felt necessary to add at the trade deadline if only because there was no one else left for the New York Mets. Definitely not the club’s top choice, it seemed like it got to the point where the Chicago White Sox were asking for too much for Luis Robert Jr. Harrison Bader coming back to Queens looked bad on paper based on how poorly he performed down the stretch.

A miserable stretch in a Mets uniform couldn’t get much worse. He’s hitting under .200 and not playing the kind of defense we got used to from Tyrone Taylor.

Mullins has seen his playing time decrease with the return of Jose Siri from a near season-long IL stint. Four games back from the IL, all Mets fans had the same thoughts: we’ve seen enough.

Jose Siri is playing his way out of any playing time for the Mets

An unproductive stretch at the plate was to be expected. What wasn’t was a horrific display on defense. Known for his glove and speed, Siri made an error that was later changed to a double and followed it up with another miscue where he approached a ball like it was carrying nuclear waste.

Fans have spent a whole lot of time criticizing the trade for Mullins. It’s almost easy to forget the Mets actually gave up a warm body, Eric Orze, in exchange for Siri last November. Orze has pitched well with the Tampa Bay Rays with a 3.02 ERA in 41.2 innings. A portion of his season has been spent in the minors, making good use of his minor league options. A work in progress, he has proven himself to be a useful pitcher the Mets could have benefited from having around this year.

Since returning from the IL, Siri is 1 for 12 with 9 strikeouts. He’s just 2 for 32 on the season with 17 punchouts in 36 trips to the plate. The K rate is unheard of. It’s like he’s trying to make up for lost time.

Who ever thought we’d see the day when Mullins was the most popular player on the Mets roster only because the alternative made us cringe so badly?
