Bo Bichette's debut series with the New York Mets was a stinker: 1-for-14 with eight strikeouts. Bichette was even booed by a tasteless sector of Mets Nation, and he flipped the ordeal on its head by handling the boos like an absolute king.
Bichette's reaction to the hate only revealed further that he's built to perform in New York, and his potent bat will rear its head very shortly. Mets fans will be celebrating Bichette far more often than booing him in 2026. In fact, there are at least three other Mets who are bound to receive more boos from fans this season.
These 3 players will be booed by Mets fans more than Bo Bichette in 2026
Before we get into the three unfortunate names, Richard Lovelady deserves an honorable mention. Lovelady is destined to see his production on the mound (or lack thereof) fall incredibly short of the reputation that his famously awesome name has set up, leading to dire disappointment (and boos) from Mets fans. The thing is, Lovelady probably won't be kept on the roster long enough for any of this to happen. It's for the best.
1) Luis Robert Jr.

— MLB (@MLB) March 28, 2026
Robert's hot start (featuring a walk-off!) is precisely what you'd expect from a guy who is going to fall off by May and be on the Injured List by June. After all, the tragedy of Robert's constant injuries wouldn't sting so much if he were just a pedestrian big leaguer. The fact that he has superstar talent is what makes his durability issues so bothersome.
Right now, Robert has Mets fans swooning as he flashes his elite bat and athleticism. But this is the honeymoon phase of the Robert-Mets fan relationship. The greater he performs in March and April, the more severely he'll be booed when he fails to sustain things, whether through injury or general fatigue later in the season.
2) Luis Garcia
Garcia's Opening Day outing may have been a harbinger of dark things to come. The 39-year-old journeyman, who signed a one-year deal with New York in January, came into an 11-5 game in the ninth inning on Thursday and quickly allowed two runs, forcing the Mets to ask Devin Williams to start warming.
In the second game of the Pirates series, Garcia allowed another run (this time unearned) and registered a walk in another inning of work. He has a 9.00 ERA and 3.00 WHIP through two innings in 2026. A small sample size, of course, but boos will arrive soon if Garcia keeps this up.
3) Devin Williams
Williams hasn't done anything yet to draw ire from Mets fans. He threw one scoreless inning (featuring two strikeouts) on Saturday.
Still, Williams is totally set up to annoy Mets fans in 2026 who are still missing Edwin Diaz and wondering why Williams has taken his place. Add in Williams' habit of sparring with fans on social media, and it's not difficult to imagine him wading into unlikable waters at some point this season. His Yankees tenure didn't exactly indicate that he's a good fit with the bright lights of New York.
