2) Brenton Doyle

In an era where center fielders who can field and hit hardly exist, Brenton Doyle might not be such a bad player. He has failed to take advantage of the 81 opportunities to play at Coors Field. A .678 OPS matching Meyers perfectly, he’s probably more prone to see his offensive numbers slide down if traded by the Colorado Rockies.

Doyle was a known Mets trade target back at the Winter Meetings. He has hit for decent power and even managed to win Gold Gloves in 2023 and 2024 in center field. In many ways, he’s a better version of Taylor.

What’s most frightening about this idea is how badly Doyle has hit away from Coors Field. A .201/.251/.321 slash line translates into him being a product, and not a very good one, of Rockies baseball. He can serve a purpose, but is he really worth trading prospects for if those road numbers are closer to the results he’ll get from a half-year at Citi Field?

Doyle meets a lot of the same criteria as the other trade candidates. He can run and field even when the bat isn’t doing much. A high strikeout rate that has managed to fall in the last two years by 10% from 35% as a rookie, he has all of the classic signs of being an at-times-exciting player but also a frustrating one.
