White Sox vs. Mets prediction and odds for Wednesday, July 19
Justin Verlander has been great in his last four starts and might put together a strong second half of the season.
It was bombs away in Queens yesterday as the New York Mets hit four home runs in an 11-10 win over the Chicago White Sox. The Mets are 44-50 and in fourth place in the NL East, but despite their record are very big favorites against the 40-56 fourth place White Sox today.
A big reason that New York is favored is Justin Verlander who will take the mound for the 14th time this season. Verlander is 3-5 with a 3.72 ERA in his previous 13 starts and the White Sox will counter with Touki Toussaint. Toussaint is 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA in his six outings this year.
Let’s get into the odds for Game 2 of this series after an offensive explosion yesterday.
White Sox vs. Mets odds, run line and total
White Sox vs. Mets prediction and pick
It was a bit of a surprise to see so many runs scored yesterday between these two teams. Well, not to me I had the over, but because they’ve been two of the lower scoring teams in baseball lately. Over the last 30 days, the Mets are 25th in runs scored and the White Sox are 16th, but Chicago has actually tailed off even more than that lately.
That matchup was ripe for offense because of the issues that both Lucas Giolito and Carlos Carrasco have keeping the ball in the ballpark, but Verlander has only given up one home run since June 8. Toussaint has only allowed one home run this year, granted it’s a small sample. After scoring 11 runs yesterday, the Mets have now scored 16 runs since the All-Star break. That’s how bad they were offensively before that game.
I’m going back to fading these two offenses tonight. Though I don’t love the pitching matchup, Toussaint has shown himself to at least be serviceable in his limited action and Verlander has given up just five earned runs across his last four starts. I’ll take the under.
