The week leading up to Opening Day is a time for those last-minute predictions. Over at SNY, the flagship network for all things relating to the New York Mets, members of their crew revealed their predictions for individual awards and also the World Series.
Biased or not, four of the twelve asked for their predictions have the Mets winning it all in 2022.
Four members of the SNY crew believe the Mets will win the 2022 World Series
Todd Zeile, Jerry Blevins, Omar Minaya, and Sal Licata all predict the Mets capture the National League East then go on to win the World Series. Two ex-players, a general manager, and a host of television and radio have high hopes for the Metsies.
However, it looks like these SNY predictions may have been made before Jacob deGrom went down with an injury. How can he possibly win a Cy Young with at least two months of missed action? If anyone can do it, it’s Jake. But no one is going to sanely predict this outcome. Several of those asked for this prediction did. There was no overtime opportunity for anyone to adjust on the fly this weekend.
The other teams receiving nominations were the Los Angeles Dodgers with four, the Toronto Blue Jays with two, the Chicago White Sox with one, and the St. Louis Cardinals with the other.
Even if these predictions came out before deGrom went down, there’s plenty of reason to believe the Mets can still capture a World Series title. They have 162 opportunities left to prove themselves. Nuttier things have happened.
Zeile, Blevins, and Licata all have the Mets taking down the White Sox in the World Series. Minaya predicts the season ends with another Subway Series. This time, the Mets win it all. And although he doesn’t have the Mets winning it all, Danny Abriano predicts they get there but lose to the White Sox.
Whatever the results, most people seem to think highly of the Mets. All twelve have them at least making it to the postseason. Get there and anything can happen.
