Mets free agent signing announcement is the team's most liked tweet

A free agent signing announcement was the most popular tweet the Mets have ever had.

Whether you call it Twitter, X, or a waste of your time, the website can offer a good glimpse into how a fanbase is feeling unless of course everybody truly is a bot which some days it feels like. BrooksGate has become increasingly popular with their strange baseball facts. One they recently shared is the most liked tweet by every team’s official Twitter account. At what point did the New York Mets hit a new high?

Which moments would you expect? Maybe something from the 2015 World Series. What about David Wright saying farewell? The Max Scherzer signing changed everything. Jacob deGrom winning a Cy Young? There are so many options, but apparently this isn’t what got Mets fans clicking most. It was the moment they signed Kodai Senga.

With more than 29K likes, no tweet has created as much delight as this one.

The Mets announcing the signing of Kodai Senga is their most popular tweet

Coming from a fanbase with a lot of negativity around it, it’s nice to see something positive be the most popular. The Darin Ruf DFA or non-tendering of Daniel Vogelbach are two recent instances where fans might have jumped to social media to express their joy. Fortunately, it was a moment we could truly be proud of that wins this competition.

Senga more than lived up to the hype last season. Because we have yet to see him this year, it’s easy to forget just how good he was.

An All-Star, Rookie of the Year runner-up, and seventh-place finisher in the Cy Young vote, Senga was 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA in 29 starts. He had his dips. In a couple of outings, finding the strike zone was a challenge. He’d eventually finish the year with 10.9 strikeouts per 9. Only four times has a Mets pitcher ever finished higher. Three times are deGrom (including the shortened 2020 season) and the other is Dwight Gooden in his historic 1984 campaign.

It is pretty amazing that the Senga announcement managed to top some of the other recent additions. Justin Verlander became a member of the Mets not long before. Perhaps this particular tweet had the benefit of some momentum. Just wait until the Mets sign Jose Iglesias to a 10-year extension. The internet might literally break.
