Mets statistics from the relievers have been excellent over the last 30 days

The Mets bullpen has been as sharp as ever over the last 30 days.

Did the New York Mets fix the bullpen at the trade deadline? Recent additions Ryne Stanek and Huascar Brazoban have each had a blow-up. Both have had a chance to find their footing after. The sample of what we’ve seen from the pair isn’t enough to jump to any conclusions.

What about everyone else? For a good month now, the Mets bullpen hasn’t been much of a problem for them. From the last 3 days, only Brazoban and Eric Orze have even been tagged with a loss.

The Mets relievers deserve credit. In a year where they were to blame for much of the struggles, they’ve been about as elite as it gets of late.

The Mets bullpen ERAs

Lefty Danny Young leads the way with 8 shutout innings, but he has company. Jose Butto at 1.20, Edwin Diaz at 1.35, Alex Young at 1.50, Dedniel Nunez at 1.59, and Phil Maton at 2.00 have helped give the Mets some incredible depth in relief. Even Adam Ottavino at 3.52 has turned his year around. He’s on a quiet hot streak and while an elevated spot in the bullpen has yet to be earned, he is tracking toward regaining Carlos Mendoza’s trust.

The Mets bullpen WHIPs

Maton is the leader there at 0.56 and Butto, maybe more impressively because of the multi-inning role he has, not far off at 0.67. Danny Young at 0.75 and Diaz at 0.90 are also below the 1.00 mark where Alex Young sits.

The Mets bullpen batting averages against

Used sparingly with 7 games over the last 30 days, Diaz has been fantastic and holds the best batting average against on the roster. Hitters are batting just 0.95 against him. Butto is second among the relievers with a .122 batting average. Also below the Mendoza Line are Maton (.138), D. Young (.138), A. Young (.150), and Nunez (.190).

The Mets passed on any major bullpen upgrades. Stanek and Brazoban were in a different class from the most elite available arms. So far, with the pieces they already had, the Mets have made out well.
