2) Threat to sign Jacob deGrom away this offseason: Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are a team I've seen mentioned in the potential Jacob deGrom sweepstakes. They are a team down south without much of a media presence. deGrom could go there and just worry about one thing, pitching.

The Rangers just spent a ton of money this past offseason, signing Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Jon Gray. Even with those signings they're well out of the playoff picture.

Texas has some intriguing prospects including six prospects in mlb.com's top 100 prospect list.

I have no idea if Texas will be willing to spend the money needed to pry deGrom away from New York but there's always the potential for a little discount if he likes the situation. Texas is a state without a state income tax as well which is important to keep in mind.

Texas has a shot of being competitive with deGrom due to their solid prospect pool and some good players on the roster right now. Guys like Nate Lowe and Adolis Garcia are good pieces to build around along with the big bats of Seager and Semien.

The Rangers give deGrom a chance to play in a smaller market a little closer to home without the pressure of playing in New York. If that's what he wants, he can get it.
