The New York Mets have many different weapons that they can use that can help them for a postseason run and better yet a world series run. They have guys such as Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom, and now even Edwin Diaz, who has been lights out, can be a good weapon for them. However, there is one huge secret weapon for the Mets that they can use to help them in this postseason run. That man is Tylor Megill.

Tylor Megill was one of the Mets best pitchers, if not the best pitcher in the rotation. Megill was dominant until he suffered a right biceps inflammation injury and has now been sidelined for more than 3 months. He is scheduled to come back in late August/early September though. This is where the plan comes in for him to be the Mets best kept secret weapon. There are a couple of options that you have with Megill now coming back from the IL soon.

The Mets can use Megill in long relief, as a 7th, or 8th inning guy, or even put him back in the rotation.

Even though the Mets have said they are going to put Megill into a bullpen role when he comes back, Megill can always go back to being a starter as he was when the season first started. If the Mets don’t feel confident about Carlos Carrasco or Taijuan Walker, they could put Megill back in the rotation, and put Carrasco or Walker in the bullpen for the postseason. When it comes to the playoffs he can be used as a 7th or 8th inning guy to get those outs before you get to Diaz. Megill can also be used in long relief if a starter were to get injured or if there were a delay.

Megill is a dominant pitcher who could be good in either role as a starter or in relief. He has five different pitches he can use. Those are a 4-seam fastball, changeup, slider, cutter, and curveball. He is versatile in whatever role you put him in. Tylor can get you out with a 96-mph fastball or even toss an 80-mph curveball in there, as well as send a slider. The Mets have a few ways of using this secret weapon who is Tylor Megill.

The New York Mets have a chance at making a deep playoff run and there is nothing more key in making a deep run than having good pitching. There is also no such thing as too much pitching and the Mets have plenty of pitchers, they can use in this postseason run. The Mets have a few ways of using Tylor Megill and it will be interesting to see how they utilize him. One thing that is for sure though, is Tylor Megill is a great secret weapon for the Mets going into the playoffs.
