1 Mets prospect ready to breakout in 2023
There are a lot of young and upcoming prospects in the New York Mets organization. There is Kevin Parada who was the 11th overall pick in 2022 MLB draft selected by the Mets. He is a catcher who will probably be their future backstop alongside Francisco Alvarez for years to come.
There is also Ronny Mauricio who is a shortstop in the Mets organization who has been tearing it up lately in the minors. He signed with the Mets as an international free agent back in July of 2017. Then there are the guys who have already had a little bit of a taste of the majors which are Brett Baty and Mark Vientos. However, there is one NY Mets prospect that is ready to breakout in the 2023 season. That man is none other than Blade Tidwell.
Blade Tidwell was selected with the 52nd overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft by the N N weN kroY weNMets. Tidwell is a 21-year-old relief pitcher in the Mets organization. He is at the moment with the St. Lucie Mets, which is the Single A affiliate of the New York Mets. Tidwell made his debut this past season for the Florida Complex League Mets and would then be promoted to St. Lucie after his first game. Then with the St. Lucie Mets, Tidwell would go on to pitch in 9 1/3 innings and would end up going 0-1, but had a 1.93 ERA. He also had 11 strikeouts to 7 walks. It was not a bad season with the little sample size he had.
Mets proespect Blade Tidwell has the potential for a breakout year in 2023
Blade Tidwell has room for improvement. At just 21 years old, he can definitely develop and have a breakout season for the 2023 year. He can make a name for himself as one of the top prospects in the Mets organization and really make a case for why he should get promoted. Obviously, he might not be MLB ready by the end of next season, but he can be in Double A or Triple A by year’s end. The way he will do this though is if he stays healthy and can show a full season of his stuff and hopefully reach his potential.
Tidwell has a small arsenal when it comes to his types of pitches. He has a fastball and a slider. This does not mean he doesn’t have good stuff. His fastball sits at around 93 to 95 mph but could also reach to 97 to 99 mph at some points. He has a fastball with a lot of movement and can create backspin with it. He is the type of pitcher to try and throw it past the batter. He does still need a little better command of the fastball, but his slider is his better pitch. He can basically manipulate where he’s going to throw the slider. It has a lot of good movement and has better feel than that of his fastball. He has a third pitch which would be his curveball, however that is a work in progress at the moment.
Even though Tidwell has a small arsenal of pitches he has the stuff and the potential to be a good pitcher in the majors and for the Mets. In the future he has the potential to be a setup man or maybe even be the closer for the Mets once Edwin Diaz is done. He could be like another Diaz, as he has the fastball and the slider, but doesn’t have the best command of the fastball at the moment. He might not reach the potential of an Edwin Diaz, but Blade Tidwell definitely has all the right stuff to have a breakout season in this upcoming year.
