2) NY Mets prediction: Jacob deGrom loses to the Braves
The series we all want to know more about—what happens when the Mets and Braves clash over the weekend?
The Mets and Braves will have a hard-fought battle in game one with New York coming away on top but just barely. Let’s call this a 3-2 victory. Chris Bassitt is solid and Edwin Diaz has no issues closing it out.
In game two, the Braves get the best of Jacob deGrom. Coming off of a poor start against the Oakland Athletics, this is scheduled to be his final regular season appearance. Does he step up and defeat the Braves or do they get the best of him? I’m predicting we get a better performance from the longtime Mets ace but a loss at the end of the day.
deGrom is going against Kyle Wright who has been very fortunate in the win column this season. It’s hard to picture the Mets going into Atlanta and winning all three games. Out of some sort of sick sadism, it’s deGrom who takes the loss.
Fortunately, the second part of this prediction has Max Scherzer dominating the Braves on Sunday. This will be a game where the Mets bats really liven up and help the team lower the magic number a little bit more.
Sadly, the clincher won’t come in this series. We’ll have to try to get it against the Nationals at home.
