Homegrown talent, player development, and free-agent acquisitions are finally paying off for the New York Mets. Along with the Houston Astros, the team leads the list of the 100 best baseball players according to the MLB Network ranking.

The Mets have eight players in the Top 100 ranking, five position players, and three pitchers. After years of consistent blunders, Steve Cohen's financial commitment to the organization and Billy Eppler's hard work this offseason put the Mets in a prime position.

The Mets have the talent to compete for the championship.

The highest position player on the list is the reigning American League Cy Young, Justin Verlander at position 14, quickly followed by Max Scherzer at position 15. The highest position player on the list is Francisco Lindor at position 21, who is projected to have one of the best years of his career in 2023.

The first 50 positions are completed by Pete Alonso, in the 21st place, and the current National League Batting Champion, Jeff McNeil in the 45th. Edwin Diaz, the best closer in the entire MLB currently, managed to position himself in position 51 after an incredible year on the mound. Finally, Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte complete the list of Mets players in the top 100 at positions 54 and 61, respectively.

The Mets' current roster which carries an organization payroll of around $470 million, while extremely expensive, has proven talent that can not be ignored. With these star players and the depth that the team currently possesses at its various positions, there is no question that the time is now to compete for a World Series title.

For Mets fans, receiving one piece of good news after another seems like a fairy tale, and it's all thanks to Cohen's commitment to this organization. As I said a few days ago, "I made a commitment to the fans, and it wasn't a short-term commitment." The Mets have the talent to win now and in the future. It's a good time to be a Mets fan.
