Luisangel Acuna has been with the New York Mets for 8 games, 27 plate appearances, and he hasn’t stolen a base yet! Weren’t we told this guy was fast? It’s kind of tough to steal bases when the balls don’t stop flying. A pair of doubles, a triple, and a surprising 3 home runs already versus the 7 he had all year in Triple-A have all of us wiping our glasses to see if this is the real deal.

A guy who has been with the ball club for just over a week now, profiled as a speedster and not much else, has helped give this team an added power punch.

Mets fans have been quick to draft blueprints for the statue of Acuna that’ll go outside of Citi Field. Those perpetually optimistic Twitter accounts might take things a little too far. Sanity tells us Acuna might’ve just been a little bored playing in the minors yet again in 2024. By the time his big brother reached his age 22 season, he was in his third year in the pros.

Kodai Senga had a successful rehab appearance for Syracuse

Back in Syracuse where top prospects are apparently bored, Kodai Senga made a one-inning appearance. It was a successful 15 pitch performance that included a pair of strikeouts.

As Anthony DiComo mentions, Senga will be available to the Mets as a last minute weapon as soon as next Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Senga is a wash for the Atlanta Braves series, but if things go haywire in Georgia, maybe they call upon him in some capacity in Wisconsin. It does feel farfetched for Senga to pitch a whole lot in any regular season return whether it be as a starter or a planned relief appearance. It’s doubtful the Mets will admit their magic number will determine Senga’s fate.

The Mets are done broadcasting home games at SNY

Certain events in September, maybe even late August, remind us that fall is coming. When fall does arrive, which it now has or will at some point on this Sunday, we inch a little closer to the end of baseball. Any finality to the baseball season helps put a bow on things. We had one on Saturday. It’s the last time the Mets will play on SNY during a home game. The masterful John DeMarsico said his farewell very appropriately with an Edwin Diaz entrance from the bullpen.

Mets fans have been mistreated these last few days and will once again on Sunday. FOX, AppleTV+, and ESPN claimed three chances to hear the hometown broadcasters.

We haven’t heard the last of this quirky crew in 2024. And after two days without them, banter like this regarding CJ Abrams helped us miss them already.
