Mets manager change, beating the Brewers set them up to fulfill a unique pattern
This is a team of destiny.
Carlos Mendoza has undoubtedly played a major role in the success of the New York Mets this season. The rookie skipper crossed over from the Bronx to Queens with no clear indication of what he’d have to offer. At least when there was Buck Showalter in the dugout in 2022 and 2023, we had an idea of what the veteran manager could do.
The Mets moved on from Showalter after 2023 and in doing so might have set themselves up for success. This is, at least, what those who believe in the patterns of the universe are looking toward as a reason for why the Mets have been so mystical this year.
The 1996 New York Yankees and 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks were one year removed from Showalter. Does the trend continue in 2024 with the Mets? If you don't buy into this one, there's another strange pattern the Mets have already checked off when it comes to winning the pennant.
The Mets at least have destiny and trends on their side
Add in another strange pattern. This one tells us that whoever eliminates the Milwaukee Brewers in the playoffs ends up at least winning the pennant, if not more.
There are a couple of World Series winners in this mix. A few fell shy of the ultimate goal. Added with the Showalter Effect, it does seem like the Mets have done all of the black magic possible to make themselves World Series champions.
Not every team has won a year after Showalter departed. The 2007 Texas Rangers and 2019 Baltimore Orioles ended the foolproof pattern set by the Yankees and Diamondbacks.
In a year when the unexplainable continues to happen for the Mets and the planets seem to always align by the ninth inning whenever they play, coincidences like this are too hard to ignore. Meaningless for rational thinkers, they’re fun tidbits of fate during a year where nothing has gone as planned in the best ways possible.
Luckily for us, Kansas City Royals reliever Will Smith is sidelined. Smith was a member of the 2021 Atlanta Braves, 2022 Houston Astros, and 2023 Texas Rangers. Will his reign of terror finally end? If the New York OMGs have anything to say about it, he's not adding any jewelry to his fingers.
