June claimed another Mets team
It has been a dreadful month of June for the New York Mets that has pretty much derailed their season. They have not won a single series in the month and the last series they were able to get a victory was all the way back in late May, beginning of June when they swept the Philadelphia Phillies. Other than that, it has not been a month or year to remember for the Mets. Entering the month of June, they were only 3.5 games behind first place in the NL East from the Atlanta Braves, and now, they're a whopping 18.5 games out and in fourth.
From late-inning meltdowns, from the offense not being able to score with runners in scoring position and the starting pitchers not being able to go deep into games, the Mets went a woeful 7-19 in June that has pretty much derailed their entire season. And if Mets fans remember, this is not the first time the Mets won only single-digit games in the month of June that saw their season fall off track. That's right, it happened in 2018.
The NY Mets went 5-21 in June of 2018
During the 2018 season, the Mets were off to a surprising start winning 11 out of their first 12 regular season games which can fans excited about how this season might go for New York. But if any Met fan remembers like I do, the team had the ultimate collapse beginning in late May that carried into the month of June which pretty much saw their hopes of a playoff berth that year, end.
The Mets entered the month of June in 2018 at 27-27 which wasn't terrible, but what happened that month I don't think anyone saw coming. The team won five, yes five games the entire month during the 27 games they played and had multiple losing streaks that went 7 games. They went from being a .500 team to holding a record of 32-48 at the end of the month. So if you think this month of June for the Mets has been bad, the 2018 month of June for the Mets is saying "Hold my beer." The team went on to finish the season 77-85.
Yes, this month and this whole season entirely has been a disaster for the Mets and has a lot to do with what happened in 2018. Now, I'm not saying that it will be the same result from that year but it sure is looking that way with this team not being able to put together any kind of winning streak together. There's still time for things to turn around and unless things change in a big way for this club, it looks like they're suffering the same fate the 2018 Mets did just six years ago.
