The New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers mini-rivalry that began in the first series of the 2024 season, got turned up a notch in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series from two of the most unlikely players on both rosters. Both Jesse Winker and Willy Adames were seen jawing with one another after Winker's go-ahead triple in the second inning which led to many fans and analysts speculating about the interaction all over social media.

While many lip readers could probably make out what both players could be saying to one another, it is an interesting storyline to follow the rest of the series, especially after Adames and Winker were teammates last season. There was no previous knowledge of an incident between the two, prior to the confrontation on Tuesday night.

The Mets and Brewers have now added an additional layer to their rivalry following the heated exchange between Jesse Winker and Willy Adames.

One could only imagine what the underlying beef may stem from as both players were pretty nonchalant with their responses to the media following the game. However, Adames did drop a notable quote stating, "That's just kind of the player he is," in response to Winker's actions towards him.

Interestingly enough outfielder Christian Yelich was getting interviewed by the ESPN broadcast shortly after the incident, but he also declined to go into further detail regarding the spat between Adames and Winker, but he hinted that the broadcast crew should know. To add to the drama before the incident, Winker was relentlessly booed by the Brewers faithful during pregame introductions, as well as all game long, and in typical Jesse Winker fashion, he came up big when it mattered to quiet down the noise.

Winker had embraced his villain role when he used to be public enemy number one any time he had played against the Mets in previous seasons, and he would come through in what seemed to be every clutch situation to bury them. It's good to finally have him on our side this time around, and maybe Winker is simply the type to thrive off of the hate from the opposing fan base.

Entering Game 2, there's no guarantee that Winker will be in the starting lineup or whether he will register a plate appearance, but one thing is for sure, there is no love lost between both him and his former teammate, as well as the fanbase that he played in front of last season.
