Even the Mets injury news is going well for this team

Everything seems to be going well for the Mets this week.

Everything's coming up New York Mets. Their 12-3 beating of the New York Yankees is the obvious reason to smile. There are simply too many good things from Wednesday’s annihilation to discuss.

The power all over the lineup. Francisco Lindor’s late MVP surge. Owning Gerrit Cole.

As a show of good faith from the baseball gods, even the Mets injury news is positive. Along with the return of Kodai Senga on Friday, the Mets received positive results from two other injured players.

Mets outfielder Harrison Bader is hurt but it doesn’t sound serious

Harrison Bader wasn’t in Wednesday’s lineup. No big deal. Tyrone Taylor handled things just fine. Apparently it was a rolled ankle in his stolen base attempt the previous day that had him a little banged up. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like anything serious.

Bader has cooled off quite a bit going 18 for his last 72 for a .250 batting average. Notably, he hasn’t drawn a single walk in that period. Swinging a little more freely, it has resulted in 4 home runs (as many as Pete Alonso over the last 30 days) but fewer trips to the base paths.

In either case, losing Bader isn’t what the Mets need right now with Starling Marte still sidelined. We should hopefully get him back soon if not Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.

Mets pitcher Christian Scott is actually better positioned for the team

Potentially equally as important is the health of Christian Scott. A UCL scare turned out to be a sprain and not a tear. Therefore, the Mets will go with some rest and relaxation with the young pitcher. This may allow him to return in late August or early September potentially in a relief role for the ball club.

Scott moving to the bullpen at some point this year always seemed inevitable given his innings limit. What’s more, his performance didn’t exactly warrant a permanent place in the rotation. Signs of future stardom without the results in some outings and a mistake or two that cost him games in others, the important takeaway here is that Scott isn’t going to need surgery—unless those baseball gods are crueler than ever. They giveth. They taketh away.
