The Mets player that will be a first time All-Star this season
The New York Mets are in the mix of one of their best seasons in recent memory. As a result, many Mets have a strong shot at making the All-Star team.
The Mets are expected to have multiple guys in the mid-summer classic, but one, in particular, stands out more than the others.
This New York Mets outfielder should be named to his first All-Star selection this season.
Brandon Nimmo is currently having a quietly great year and should be selected for his first career All-Star selection as a result. It is easy to look past Nimmo with many superstar outfielders in the NL and even his own teammate in Starling Marte.
Although Nimmo's numbers and slash line at first glance is not his best in his career, he is having a strong year. Heading into Monday, June 28th, Nimmo ranked in the top 10 in the National League for outfielders in runs scored, hits (top 5), doubles, triples (1st), AVG (top 5), OBP (top 5), SLG, and OPS (top 5).
As of Sunday, June 27th Nimmo was on the outside looking in, despite being ranked in the top 10 in most offensive categories for National League outfielders. He was 10th in voting for outfielders, but not too far behind the players directly ahead of him.
Even though Nimmo would not likely make the All-Star team if the voting ended today, he still has a very good shot of making it and likely will. Each team is required at least one representative and with other players currently injured in front of him on the voting list, he will move up as a result.
Nimmo's stellar first half should not and likely will not go unnoticed as he will likely represent the Mets in the All-Star game in Los Angelos come mid-July.
