The Mets need to add more depth at this position

The New York Mets front office has done a great job of retaining and replenishing some needs to this point in the offseason. With a little over a month, before we have pitchers and catchers reporting to Port St. Lucie, there is still some work that needs to be done regarding roster construction.

The Mets could certainly use some additional depth added to their outfield mix as that is one weak area on the roster that I believe still needs addressing. I previously mentioned a few days ago three players who could make sense as a fourth outfielder for the Mets next season, as on their roster currently they have Starling Marte, Brandon Nimmo, Mark Canha, Khalil Lee, as well as Darin Ruf, and Jeff McNeil as options as well.

The Mets still require some additional outfield depth on their offseason checklist

If the Mets are looking at some familiar name-brand outfield options that are left on the free agent market they certainly can target names such as Andre McCutchen, Adam Duvall, and Jurickson Profar to possibly bring in to fortify that fourth outfielder position. Each of those players brings their own set of strengths that could benefit the Mets off the bench next season but they each don't come without their own set of flaws.

The outfield market this winter is certainly not the strongest. To put that in perspective only eight outfielders have signed free-agent deals that exceeded one year this winter and Brandon Nimmo is included in that list. It was a huge reason why there was legitimate interest surrounding Nimmo earlier this offseason from nearly half of the league as finding quality starting outfielders was few and far between.

If General Manager Billy Eppler prefers to look at the second tier of options that are remaining on the market, they could choose to look at some minor league deal depth options such as the recently signed Tim Locastro. If the Mets go that route, they could sign multiple outfielders with invites to spring training with the hopes they can find lightning in a bottle with a player breaking camp out of the bunch.

Some names also that remain on the market that may need to settle for Minor League deals this winter include Jackie Bradley Jr., Odubel Herrera, Ben Gamel, and Raimel Tapia, among others. Maybe some of those names could interest the Mets in regards to them taking a flier on their talent.
