The New York Mets roster is filled with star players. One player that fans should keep an eye on this season is Brandon Nimmo. The 28-year-old outfielder is entering the prime years of his career, and is going to be a key player in New York's success this season.

Nimmo has always been elite at getting on base during his six-year-career with the Mets, as he finished with a .401 OBP in 2021. He is not only one of the better offensive players for the roster, he is also one of the better defenders too. The injuries over the years have held Nimmo back. If he can put together a healthy season in 2022, New York will have another unexpected star on their roster.

Brandon Nimmo consistently gets on base

The 2011 first-round pick has always been one of the better all-around players for the Mets in the past few seasons. The outfielder is expected to resume his role in the lead-off spot for the Mets because of his ability to consistently get on base, and record hits at high rate.

New York has one of the better lead-off hitters in the game. During his career he has led off 223 games, in those games he own a .390 OBP. Nimmo does a great job of drawing walks to get on base, but he can also hit. In 2021, the 28-yer-old finished with a .292 BA. He was one of the best hitters for the Mets during the 2021 season.

The Mets have a powerful lineup with sluggers such as Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor. Having Nimmo at the top of the lineup will make it much easier for those two to drive in runs for New York.

Nimmo is an underrated defender

The Mets have always struggled on the defensive side, as fans have become accustomed to seeing games filled with errors. Nimmo has been the one of the more reliable outfielders for New York these past few seasons, as he has been tasked with playing center field. He is naturally a corner-outfielder, but he is an underrated defender in center field.

Nimmo is one of the faster players on the roster, giving him a wide range in center field. His ability to track down challenging fly balls is unquestionable.

New York will still face a challenge as the NL East is currently stacked this season. The roster is loaded with stars, but Brandon Nimmo is most certainly going to be a key part of the Mets success in 2022.
