The New York Mets have established themselves as one of the most intriguing and competitive teams in baseball. The 2023 season brings even more expectations due to the increase in his payroll and his aggressiveness in the market to build a team that can win the championship.

Mets' roster looks with many points of strength, a rotation with a ceiling and potential to be the best in MLB, a solid bullpen, and a lineup that was one of the best last season. However, there are three areas where the organization separates itself from the rest of the league.

1) The Mets have the best owner in all of MLB

For fans of professional baseball, Steve Cohen has become the desire and envy of all. An owner with enough money and a fan of the team and the sport offers endless opportunities for an organization. We are talking about someone willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goal.

Since we were young, we dreamed of having a team that includes all the superstars and being able to enjoy each game. Cohen has, little by little, added to an organization that always seemed destined for failure. But this does not just translate to fans. MLB owners are infuriated with Cohen's spending this offseason.

Most MLB owners find themselves under pressure from their fans after what Steve has done in Queens. Cohen commented, “I'm not responsible for how other teams run their clubs. They are putting it on me. Maybe they need to look more at themselves."

The fans' appreciation of Steve Cohen's commitment to his organization and the envy and fury of other organizations for his work makes him the best owner in all of MLB and the most popular. We live in strange times but we can finally say it is fun to be a New York Mets fan again.

2) The Mets have the best manager in MLB

Buck Showalter is not only the National League Manager of the Year for his work with the Mets in the 2022 season but the best manager in all of MLB. This statement is not only due to his skills as a coach but, to his experience and knowledge of the game.

Buck came to a Mets team quite divided in the clubhouse with events such as the fight between Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil, the episode of thumbs down to the fans, or some conflicts due to the attitudes of some players. Showalter in his maturity and experience led the clubhouse not only by the establishment of order but creating an environment and culture of teamwork.

Thanks to his knowledge of the game, he managed to save some wins last year. Buck's IQ and command of the rules came to the fore on several occasions creating situations like JD Davis' steal of second base early last season.

Situations like that and the management of the team make Buck Showalter a top manager in the league. Many could argue that there are better ones out there but, none have made as quick and significant a difference as Buck with the Mets, which makes him the best in baseball right now.

3) The Mets have the best closer in MLB

Edwin Diaz came to the Mets in the infamous blockbuster trade that brought with him Robinson Canó and his contract for some top prospects. Since his arrival in Queens, Diaz had problems limiting home runs and preserving victories that led fans to hate him.

He went so far as to argue that pitching in New York was very different from Seattle. The exposure in the press for everything he did, the pressure of social networks and the public made the first year brutal for him and slower his adaptation.

Since then Diaz has been adapting to a market as demanding as New York and has taken his game to the highest level. The Puerto Rican-born improvement is given by an increase in the use of his slider and greater confidence.

The Mets closer has become a virtually unbeatable pitcher. He generates more than 50% strikeouts, induces a batting average well below .150, with a WHIP below 1.00, and picks up 30+ saves.

This does not stop there. Diaz also became great entertainment for the public thanks to the great acceptance of the public when he entered the pitch with the song Narco. This spotlight made him a must-see which, together with his performance, currently makes him the best closer in all of MLB.
