2) The NY Mets should take advantage of what the Brewers are doing and trade for Corbin Burnes

David Stearns got out at the right time. The Milwaukee Brewers won’t be having a fan appreciation day in 2023. They’re selling pieces and it doesn’t seem as if they’ll be buying too many replacements either.

One of those luxury items Mets fans would love to get their hands on is pitcher Corbin Burnes. The 2021 National League Cy Young winner is similar to Bieber in many ways. Burnes isn’t quite as accomplished just yet. He’s well on his way.

Burnes has two seasons of control left, just like Bieber. Milwaukee’s sell off of several pieces is more likely an indication that they’d like to lower payroll while keeping their talented rotation intact. Nobody is more important on the mound to them than Burnes. He should already be among the favorites to win the National League Cy Young next season.

What makes this a bit tougher for the Mets to execute could even be the relationship between the two franchises. You may recall Brewers ownership disallowing Stearns from speaking with the Mets in the past. It may not have been anything personal. They would likely have done the same for many other clubs.

Nevertheless, Burnes won’t be coming to the Mets this offseason. Just like Bieber, the price is going to be more than Eppler has shown he is willing to give up.
