Mets vs. Padres prediction and odds for Saturday, July 8 (Mets' bats stay hot)
The Mets are surging, winners of six straight, but can the team handle one of the hottest pitchers in baseball in Blake Snell? Our expert best bet.
The New York Mets heater out west continued on Friday night with an extra innings win against the San Diego Padres.
The Mets will hope David Peterson can build on his two best starts of the season on Saturday against the Padres, who counter with the hottest pitcher in the big leagues over the past month or so, posting a 0.75 ERA over his last six starts.
Can the Mets keep it up? Here are the odds and our best bet:

Mets vs. Padres prediction and pick
Snell has been on the money of late, but I believe the Mets offense can get to him. With the likes of Pete Alonso in the heart of the lineup, New York is incredibly dangerous against left handers, fifth in home runs when facing southpaws this season.
While Snell has been on fire of late, he still walks a ton of batters, fifth most in Major League Baseball, and can put himself into trouble against a Mets team that is tied for the sixth highest OPS in the bigs over the last 15 days, per MLB.com.
However, I'm going to opt for a different route than betting the Mets to win outright, instead taking the over as the Padres are 11th in OPS against left handed pitching and Peterson's underlying metrics still give me pause.
The lefty is walking nearly four batters per nine innings and is allowing more than 11 hits per nine against a Padres lineup that is finding its ceiling with Juan Soto, Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. among many sluggers in the lineup.
I can't trust Peterson just yet, but I do think the Mets turn this into a high scoring affair in the midst of this season saving winning streak.
