After posting a middling 16-14 record in their last 30 games, the New York Mets sit just a half-game ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East with just over a couple of weeks left in the regular season. The Mets may need a little juice to close the 2022 campaign, so FanDuel Sportsbook is giving you a $1,000 risk-free bet for today's matchup with the Chicago Cubs.

Here's how I'm using my $1,000 no-sweat bet on the Mets against the Cubs:

Cubs vs Mets Prediction and Pick

Cubs vs Mets Under 7.5 (-104)

The Mets have four straight losses as home favorites, scoring just five runs total in that stretch. This lineup is struggling, and it's no wonder the under is 12-4 in New York's last 16 games in this spot.

Drew Smyly rebounded from a disastrous seven-run performance against St. Louis and has now allowed two or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts. David Peterson, meanwhile, has a 6.00 ERA this month but did throw five shutout innings against Chicago back in July.

I've got faith in Peterson, but I have a hard time trusting this lineup right now. As a result, I'll trust the trends and favor a low-scoring matchup.

In the Cub's last 22 games as road underdogs, the under is 13-5-4. Further, it's 6-1 in Smyly's last seven outings on top of the aforementioned 12-4 stretch when the Mets are home favorites.

Expect these trends to continue as Peterson and Smyly duel throughout the evening.

If you fancy the Mets on the run line, stick with me on the under or prefer a different wager, don't forget to claim your $1,000 no-sweat bet from FanDuel Sportsbook.

There's enough stress involved with a tight division race, so let's enjoy tonight's critical game with at least one fewer worry.
