The 2023 season has been a disappointing one for the New York Mets to this point, but it hasn’t been as bad as the St. Louis Cardinals’ season.

After being projected to win the NL Central this season, St. Louis has been dreadful, going 27-43 through its first 70 games. The team is in last place in the NL Central and has lost six straight entering Saturday’s matchup in New York.

The Mets are 10.5 games out of the NL East lead, so they need every win they can get right now to get back in contention.

New York will have rookie Kodai Senga (6-3, 3.34 ERA) on the mound in this game against Adam Wainwright (2-1, 5.79 ERA). The Cards veteran is really struggling in his age-41 season.

Let’s dive into the odds and my best bet for Saturday’s contest:

Cardinals vs. Mets odds, run line and total

Cardinals vs. Mets prediction and pick

The Mets are just 3-7 in their last 10 games, but I like them to win this matchup with the Cardinals on Saturday.

Wainwright has really struggled, pitching less than 6.0 innings in every start this season and posting a Fielding Independent Pitching of 4.43. While that is lower than his ERA, the Cards starter has allowed at least three earned runs in every start this season.

That’s a pretty poor ceiling to have, and it should help a struggling Mets offense today.

Meanwhile, Senga is starting to settle in at the Major League level, allowing three or fewer earned runs in five straight starts.

The rookie has lowered his FIP to 4.09, but walks have still been an issue (40 in 64.2 innings). If he can avoid the free passes, Senga should be able to slow down the Cards to lead the Mets to a win.
