3) Corbin Burnes
Both teams could benefit from bolstering their starting pitching rotations. A guy that can help either teams is Corbin Burnes. The 30-year-old star is coming off a really good season with the Orioles. Recently, he just finished as one of the finalists for the NL Cy Young Award. Even better, Burnes has finished in the top eight of the Cy Young for five seasons now. That is something that is very impressive.
Burnes’ ability to rack up strikeouts while limiting hard contact makes him a dream acquisition for any team looking to dominate in October. In 2024, he posted a 2.92 ERA over 194.1 innings, struck out 181 batters, and maintained an impressive 1.02 WHIP while holding opponents to a .165 batting average. His mix of power and precision would not only fill the Mets' current void but also bolster their chances in a division loaded with offensive firepower.
Corbin is expected to be the premier target to improve the improve the rotation. If he were to sign with the Mets it wouldn't be a surprise considering his history with David Stearns. Those two have a working relationship dating back to their Milwaukee days. Still, it would be a big deal if they would find a way to reunite once again.
