MLB free agency has finally arrived, and the New York Mets are expected to be big spenders this offseason. However, one thing they're not bracing for is losing their first baseman Pete Alonso in free agency. Alonso, 29, is coming off a solid season with the Mets. This year, he managed to produce a batting average of .240 along with 34 homers and 88 RBI. He even delivered in several clutch postseason moments.

Alonso is currently looking for a contract that is worth at least $200 million. It is unclear if they're willing to give him that type of contract. Right now, they're in pursuit of outfielder Juan Soto, who's expected to dominated this year's free agency market. If Soto signs with the Mets, the team may move on from Alonso, which would leave them without a first baseman.

However, the team could fix that issue by turning to the trade market. One suitor that could work out for the Mets in a potential trade is the Chicago Cubs. If they decided to target a player from the Cubs, first baseman Cody Bellinger would be the perfect choice. Rumors say that the team is looking to trading him and New York could be an ideal landing spot for him.

How Cody Bellinger could fit well in A Mets uniform

At the very moment, the Mets could use a power bat at first base. The task of replacing Alonso won't be easy. However, acquiring a talented veteran like Bellinger could change the dynamic of the Mets lineup with his bat. Bellinger, 29, is coming off a solid season with the Cubs. This season, he was able to hit .266 along with 18 homers and 78 RBI. Another reason to like a guy like Bellinger is due to him being a lefty. As a matter of fact, the Mets do lack lefties in their lineup.

Bellinger even understands the tasks of handling the big market teams. Before, he was a Cub, Cody spent the first six seasons in Dodgers uniform. He won multiple honor awards which includes the NL Rookie of the Year, NLCS MVP, NL MVP and a World Series championship. Handling another big-market team like New York shouldn't pose a problem, as history has shown.
