The 2025 MLB trading deadline has come and gone, leaving in its wake a multitude of players who will be changing their uniforms and joining new teams for the stretch run. The New York Mets were in the market for a new centerfielder, They went looking for a player with the the defense to solidify their outfield as well as the speed to bat at the top of the order.

After the searching and wheeling and dealing was done, the Mets decided to go with center fielder Cedric Mullins, who was traded on Thursday from the Baltimore Oriole to the New York Mets. In order to get the low down of what we can expect from our newest player, I decided to go to the source. I contacted the world’s biggest Baltimore Orioles fan, my grandson Brody.

Welcome to New York, Cedric Mullins

Brody in nine years old and lives just outside Baltimore in Catonsville, MD. He lives and dies with his Orioles, so much so that he wears a different Orioles shirt to school everyday. I asked him what he thought about Cedric Mullins being traded to the New York Mets. His initial response was, “I don’t want to talk about it.” It's no fun to be a fan when your team decides to trade away your favorite players, and believe me that's true at any age.

I decided to approach the subject from a slightly different perspective, so I asked Brody what the Mets fans could expect to see from Mr. Mullins for the remainder of this year. After some grumbling and complaining, he finally said, “Great fielding, very fast runner, sometimes he can be very good. He got off slow this year but he’s really been cooking lately at the plate.” I tried to tell him that the Orioles could still resign Cedric Mullins after the season but he wasn't interested.

Time to get cooking

Well, Mets fans, there you have it. I’m not very good at interpreting fourth grade baseball slang, but I think that is a very positive review from someone who knows. Brody loves his Orioles, so you can take this opinion to the bank. I think it’s about time that the Mets started doing a little cooking at the plate.
