It's a popular opinion among New York Mets fans that the lineup could use an upgrade. While guys in the "Fab Four" have lived up to expectations at certain points, the bottom of the lineup has left a lot to be desired. Sure, guys like Luis Torrens and Brett Baty have looked good at specific points, but if the Mets want to go on a deep run in October, they need to find more consistency from five through nine.

Especially when it comes to hitting with runners in scoring position. Since the beginning of the season, that has been one of the most significant problems with this lineup. As a team, they have a slashline of .229/.322/.401 with 28 home runs and drawing 109 walks with runners in scoring position. Numbers that rank near the bottom in most statistical categories. It seems like the Mets are never able to come through with the big hit when needed.

This has led many to believe that the only way to address this problem is through the trade deadline. One of the names that keeps being mentioned is Eugenio Suarez. He's expected to be one of the best bats on the market and will provide the Mets with the clutch hitter they need.

Eugenio Suarez could provide the spark the Mets lineup is in need of

Suarez is currently in the middle of one of the best seasons of his career. In 99 games this season, he has slashed .257/.328/.601 with 36 home runs, 86 RBIs, and an OPS+ of 152. He was also named an All-Star for only the second time in his career, and has won NL Player of the Week four times this season. The first time a Diamondbacks player has won Player of the Week more than once in a season.

He's also been extremely clutch for the Diamondbacks. He has a slashline of .289/.395/.667 with 10 home runs, 52 RBIs, and a wRC+ of 181. Even with guys on base, his numbers are pretty good, having a slashline of .286/.358/.640 with 16 home runs, 66 RBIs, and a wRC+ of 168. Having that type of production in the lineup would bring up the poor numbers they have with runners in scoring position.

Suarez also fits perfectly in the Mets lineup. He would become the everyday third baseman, eliminating the concern of the Mets' young infielders not living up to expectations. He's also posted his best numbers this season when batting fifth in the order, which is where he would hit in the Mets lineup. In 49 games, he's slashed .286/.347/.593 with 15 home runs, 48 RBIs, and a wRC+ of 157. The perfect guy to protect Juan Soto and Pete Alonso in the lineup.

Although bullpen help should be the primary goal for the Mets this deadline, a Suarez trade would be a big help. It would give the Mets another bat they can rely on and allow them to get more big hits. It could be the bat that gets the lineup going, and allows them to start living up to expectations.
