The New York Mets added a lot of new faces to the farm system at the trade deadline. Where they ranked gave fans the first idea of exactly how good they can become.
As expected, the results were incredibly mixed with some incoming Mets prospects thriving and others looking like they’ll need more work. After the misery fans were put through with the big league club early, it was nice to have something to look forward to. After all, the theme of the 2026 Mets season was already about how bright the future is.
There are a lot of ways to rank prospects. Excitement level is how we’ll do it today by using the five who did enough to move us to the edge of our seats before their minor league season wrapped up.
Ranking the 5 most exciting Mets prospects acquired at the trade deadline
5) Aidan Smith
It doesn’t seem like Aidan Smith got a whole lot of attention after the trade deadline and maybe that’s because he’s an outfielder. The Mets are kind of all set there. Although it was only High-A, Smith hit .321 with 5 home runs in 99 plate appearances for Brooklyn. Playing mostly center field, his right-handed bat is certainly a candidate to eventually carry him to the majors and make him an appropriate platoon partner if A.J. Ewing falls into the trap of being unable to handle left-handed pitching or we see regression from Carson Benge. It’s years away. Smith may even end up as a trade chip before we get to that conversation.
4) Gabe Davis
You can’t teach height. Gabe Davis never had to worry about it. At 6’9, he towers on the mound. While his 8.31 ERA for the Chicago White Sox in Double-A didn’t thrill us, the turn around to pitch to a 2.53 ERA for Binghamton showed us that maybe he was working through some kinks. Davis, alongside Gary Gill Hill, are the two starting pitchers the Mets acquired at the trade deadline currently ranked the best. Davis could probably use a little more time in Double-A next year before making a jump to Triple-A. Considering the 2026 season was his first actually playing (he was drafted in 2025), Davis is very much on track to reach the majors at an appropriate time.
3) Emilien Pitre
After hitting .335 in Double-A, it’s hard to not think Emilien Pitre has the tools to become at least a really good contact hitter in the majors. He walked 80 times and struck out only 58 in 2026. Speedy too, stealing 35 bases at all levels and with both organizations, Pitre is a versatile infielder who has played strong defense in addition to finding ways to get on base. His abilities may be more low-key than some, but the impact is recognizable.
2) Billy Amick
This isn’t ranking prospects based on anything more than excitement, okay. So having Billy Amick listed second is no crime. A second-round pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2024, he has a career minor league slash line of .248/.357/.490. Those numbers were down this past season except for the slugging percentage which reached an outrageous .520. Thanks to 38 home runs and 108 RBI, the strikeout-prone corner infielder who’ll be more of a first baseman by the time he gets to the majors has the kind of power Mets fans are still recovering from losing when Pete Alonso walked away. There’s a lot of boom or bust with Amick. You’re kidding if you aren’t excited to see if it’s boom.
1) Jefferson Rojas
Ranked as the best prospect the Mets acquired, there’s no escaping putting Jefferson Rojas number one. He had a strong finish in Syracuse for his final week of action and managed to quietly hammer 27 home runs between his time with the Chicago Cubs and Mets including 9 in Double-A Binghamton in only 29 games plus 3 more in 6 games for Triple-A Syracuse. A clearcut favorite to make a jump to the majors and take over the third base gig at some point in 2027, Rojas looks very much ready to live up to his hype.
