2) Jett Williams

Mets fans were thrilled to see the team acquire Luisangel Acuna at the 2023 trade deadline. A little over a year earlier, much was made about the club drafting Kevin Parada with the first of their two first-round draft picks. Then a funny thing happened. Baseball was played.

Acuna didn’t have a good year in Triple-A in 2024 but brought some excitement to the ballpark upon his promotion in September. Undoubtedly a skilled and exciting player, the same should be said about Jett Williams. He was “the other guy” taken in the first round by the Mets in the 2022 draft. Their actual pick, with Parada being compensation for the organization’s failure/reluctance to sign Kumar Rocker, this one seems to have a much higher reward in the near future.

A lot of the same attributes Acuna can bring belong to Williams. Deadly speed, swiping 45 bases in 52 attempts back in 2023, landed him on everyone’s radar as a potential future leadoff hitter. Drawing 104 walks and slashing .263/.425/.451 along the way, this shortstop/center field prospect has an array of tools that can make him a thrilling part of the Mets’ future.

A mostly washed out 2024 campaign outside of 148 plate appearances where he didn’t do much has done little to end the excitement. About to take on the 2025 season at 21 for the full year, we’re all eager to see what he can do when healthy.
