The relationship between Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto has been a driven narrative about the shortcomings of the New York Mets over the last year and a half. The club’s fall in 2025 and struggles in 2026 all seem to relate to the two Mets stars not getting along. Everything they do is getting dissected as if star players who aren’t best friends haven’t won before.
The astonishing thing is there’s no way for either to win off the field. Lindor’s “no comment” in regards to waiving his no-trade clause can be interpreted either way you want it.
Soto taking a picture with the New York Yankees All-Stars has turned into a story about him missing his old team even if those he was pictured with played a combined 50 games with him in the past: Ben Rice accounting for all of them in a part-time role hitting .171 in 2024.
The growing suspicion about how these two really feel about each other has become a bigger story this year simply because it has been denied but also admitted to. The cloak and dagger of it has left fans and haters wondering what’s really going on.
Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto are going to have an impossible time squashing the rumors about their poor relationship
Soto spoke before the Home Run Derby and finally was able to add a little bit of credence to the pair not being yin and yang.

"All of them. I think Benge, Ewing, they have so much talent. I know Lindor is going to be back up again." pic.twitter.com/tATl6SBDB4
A reasonable take to mention Lindor as an All-Star player next year, the inclusion was important even if it doesn’t completely squash the story. Putting over his star teammate is important.
The SNY Mets X account has been on top of it, sharing things as minor as Lindor waiting for Soto on the infield after a diving catch. What should be an unnecessary moment captured has become important because every look has been studied. How long they shake hands or how quickly one stands up for the other after a home run shouldn’t matter and yet it remains a constant discussion point.

Mike Francesa insisting the Mets will try to trade Lindor furthered the speculation about a sooner-than-expected run with in Queens for the star shortstop. The same voice who brought us the idea that Brandon Nimmo was traded because of political beliefs differing from Lindor, it’s not substantiated. This doesn't mean it's not true nor is any of the other rumored locker room issues. According to Francesa, it was Lindor’s lack of a welcome text to Soto that got the relationship off on a bad foot. Allegedly, Lindor was the one key Mets player who didn’t reach out to welcome Soto.
“The Mets are going to try very, very hard to trade [Francisco] Lindor.” 👀

Drama seems to find its way through to the Mets nearly every season. The Lindor and Soto relationship is the most dramatic and now overblown. That’s not to say their relationship never was sour. Both just needs to be incredibly careful about everything they do or say, unless of course they want to have a lot of fun making everyone believe there’s trouble where there might not be.
