For most teams, spring training is a reset button—a time for fresh faces, renewed optimism, and the illusion of a five-way tie atop the division. Last year’s struggles? Forgotten. The postseason? Always in sight. But the New York Mets aren’t most teams. Since June 1 of last season, the clubhouse energy hasn’t stayed behind closed doors, it’s been leaking all over social media, soaking the fan base in chaos and comedy. The team's energy has translated into internet gold, and the Mets have turned unpredictability into an art form. It’s wild, ridiculous, and exactly why this team is so easy to love.
We are one week into Port St. Lucie life, and the Mets fan base and their social media accounts haven’t missed a beat from their amazin’ 2024 season.
If you settled in for lunch today, unwrapped your hero sandwich, cracked open a can of Coca-Cola, and expected to catch the Mets taking on the Marlins, you were in for a letdown. This wasn't the first time this spring that the Mets game wasn't broadcast. Earlier this week, it left six-time NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell scratching his head and wondering how to tune in to his beloved Mets.
Hey @MLBNetwork why is it so hard to watch @Mets spring training games ??

But leave it to the Mets Social Media team, who channeled their inner Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid author, for those of you without kids) to craft a 9-page masterpiece describing the Mets game in picturesque detail that only a Bic round stic blue ink pen could provide. Paul Blackburn had a clean 1-2-3 inning, sporting facial hair that would earn Yankee approval. Soto challenged a strike call with an unnaturally long right arm. A great image of the fans supporting their team in the 6th. Ortega made sure a very unhappy Marlin was out at home plate. In the end, it was literary magic; Diary of a Wimpy Kid: OMG, It’s Spring Training!

When you can point to multiple instances, it’s no longer a one-off—it becomes a culture. That clubhouse vibe, dating back to last season and the legend of Grimace, the OMG anthem, the celebration dugout photo ops, and the playoff pumpkin mixed with a dash of swagger has breathed new life into every Mets fan. Today, the Mets’ social media team showcased this spirit once again, reminding us all that there’s never a dull moment in Metsland. It’s not just about the games; it’s about the fun, the camaraderie, and the unique brand of chaos that makes being a Mets fan an experience like no other! If this is only spring training, I can’t wait to see what 2025 brings to Citi Field and their social media platforms!
