The Miami Florida Marlins- This one's for Shea
If you're a true Mets fan, every time you see the Marlins as the final series on the schedule, you knock on wood, while throwing salt over your left shoulder, while wearing magic charms to ward off the "Evil Eye." And if you don't do all that, you at least think back to 2007 and 2008 in a panicked sweat. That was, of course, the two-season stretch where the Mets completed two consecutive horrific collapses to lose the division and also a playoff spot.
Even if the Mets make the playoffs, going 31-48 since mid-June is already a collapse any way you slice it

And itβs worse than 2007 bc there was only 1 Wild Card spot back then
The second collapse, in 2008, ended with the Marlins players celebrating on the sacred grounds of Shea, in its final moments as the Mets' ballpark. It was truly gut-wrenching. And while the blown leads were to the Phillies both seasons, it was those damned Marlins who got the last laugh both times. The 2007 collapse was particularly brutal, blowing a seven-game lead with 17 games to go. It was the greatest collapse in baseball history. And they've played baseball for a long time.
As you can see, the Marlins also never let us forget this. Even though it meant nothing to them, apparently, it meant everything.
The #Marlins ending the Mets playoff hopes in 2007 on the last day of the season. What was so sweet is that the Fish made the game unreachable in the 1st inning so the fans at Shea had to wallow in misery for 8 more innings. #DaleMiami #MakeItMiami #MLB https://t.co/4FYegBGzjj pic.twitter.com/EpCXZPOgQi

The Mets will either finally get their retribution and defeat the once Florida, now Miami, still ugly uniformed, Marlins. Or as the great Yogi Berra once said, it'll be "deja vu all over again."
