It doesn’t get easier after yet another trip to the West Coast. The New York Mets schedule has them starting off June versus the Seattle Mariners before an off-day that allows them to travel down to San Diego to take on the Padres. Mets players are more familiar with the Pacific Ocean than Atlantic this year. They haven’t even played the Atlanta Braves or Philadelphia Phillies in 2026.
June is regularly a month where Mets either break or make it a summer to remember. The “June swoon” doesn’t necessarily apply here as the club is still trying to fight to be taken seriously. Their 12-game losing streak back in April has continued to hold them back.
After a 16-12 May, things have swung in a positive direction for New York. It’s these three series in June where a statement needs to be made.
The Mets can't look weak in these three June series
St. Louis Cardinals 9-11
The St. Louis Cardinals have been in a playoff position for quite some time. Who would’ve thought after deleting more players from the core that they’d actually be this competitive in 2026? Superb defense has been their best attribute while the offense and the pitching has been hovering around average at best. When the Mets play the Cardinals from June 9-11, it’s time they give them a reality check and not the other way around.
Cincinnati Reds 15-17
The Mets get the Cincinnati Reds out of the way completely this month. Some revenge would taste good. The Reds took 2 out of 3 from the Mets at home in May with New York skating away with a losing streak-snapping 4-2 win in the finale. The Mets need to prove that tight one at the end featuring a cavalcade of relievers was a legitimate example of how you can be victorious even without the best plan. The Reds aren’t a rival of the Mets and yet it seems like with them taking the tie-breaker for the final playoff spot in 2025, there’s something to this once upon a time relationship. Smackdab in the middle of the month, this series can sway the entire 30 days one way or the other.
Philadelphia Phillies 18-21
It’s only three games spread over four days because of the World Cup, but regardless of the logistics, the Mets need to go into Philadelphia and handle the Phillies. They host them later in the month. However, it’s the road series we need to see the Mets exorcise some demons. It was versus the Phillies last September when a sweep seemed to put away the Amazins for good. Harrison Bader is no longer there, not that he seems like much of a threat in 2026. This series will be the first battle between these NL East foes. One team can easily call the other out for being a fraud. It'll set up nicely for a series later in the month when the Mets invite the Phillies to Queens.
