The New York Mets sent shockwaves throughout the baseball world by nabbing away Juan Soto from their crosstown rivals, and according to many analysts across baseball, it seems like they are just getting started this winter. With several holes still to fill on the roster, more specifically the pitching staff, the Mets seem to be interested in another former New York Yankee who could be an ideal fit for Queens.

According to ESPN Insider Jorge Castillo the Mets are among a handful of teams that are interested in right-handed pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga. Loaisiga had only made three appearances last season for the Yankees after having to undergo surgery on his UCL in his throwing arm in April. Castillo also mentions that Loaisiga is fully expected to land a Major League deal this winter, and with the amount of interest that has been shown to this point, that does not come as a surprise.

The Mets have the ability to poach another electric arm from the Yankees pitching stable this winter.

Injuries aside, Loaisiga has been an electric arm out of the bullpen for the Yankees over the last seven seasons, and with the Mets looking to add some new arms to bridge to Edwin Diaz, Loaisiga makes perfect sense as a bounce-back candidate next season. Loaisiga is primarily known for his high 90's sinkerball that stifles hitters at the plate, and with his ties to Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza, on paper, the move seems like an ideal fit.

The Mets have already signed away both Clay Holmes and Juan Soto from the Yankees in a matter of days. If the Mets were to steal a third Yankees player away this winter, you are going to have many Yankees fans continuing to stare in confusion as to where the power dynamic now lies in New York City. Signing Loaisiga to a one or two-year deal would be a huge upgrade to the Mets bullpen, an area I would expect them to key in on at the Winter Meetings this week.
