2 NY Mets rumors we wish came true, 2 we're glad never did

The Mets definitley wish they had these two, but are probably relieved they didn't get this other pair.

Camilo Doval has struggled with the Yankees

Bednar wasn't the only reliever the Mets looked into, but didn't acquire; the New York Yankees ended up getting one. Camilo Doval had solid numbers with the San Francisco Giants, pitching to the tune of a 3.09 ERA, 3.23 FIP, and 1.20 WHIP over 46.2 innings. He only had a 0.39 HR/9 ratio with a 26.2% K%. There were definitely red flags to his performance. His K% was decent, but he had a near-30% rate from 2021 through 2024, sitting at 29.8%. Walks were also an issue, with a 12.6% BB%, the second highest of his career.

Things have only gotten worse for Doval with the Yankees. It has only been 13.2 innings, and he has already allowed 10 earned runs on 18 hits. Two of those hits were home runs. The right-hander has faced 63 batters and has struck out just a dozen. Walks have continued to be an issue for Doval, as he's dished out nine free passes.

The Yankees ended up giving up four prospects for Doval, including two prospects who are ranked among the Giants' top 30, according to MLB Pipeline. The Mets may have made a mistake trading for Helsley, but at least they didn't make the same sort of mistake twice during one trade deadline.
