This is probably a Mets fan road trip you can skip.

We can all appreciate a good troll job. Sometimes, though, they can be a bit heartbreaking. The Kansas City Royals know how to rub salt in the wound almost 10 years later. On the anniversary of their 2015 World Series victory over the New York Mets, they’ll do their best at reminding us what could have been.

This year, the Mets visit the Royals on July 11-13. They’ll waste no time in reminding the Mets of failures past. The first 20,000 fans in attendance at Kauffman Stadium will receive an Eric Hosmer bobblehead.

Give the Royals a 2-run advantage in this game for bringing up ghosts from our past

Hosmer didn’t have the most spectacular World Series against the Mets. It was the timing of what he did that made him such a memorable villain among a long list of them. Slashing .190/.240/.238 in the series with 7 strikeouts, the quick conclusion would be that he didn’t do a whole lot. We know better.

Although he made a significant error in Game 1 of the World Series, his sacrifice fly in extra innings gave the Royals the win. He drove in two more runs in Game 2 with his more dastardly moment coming in Game 5. It was Hosmer, a guy now known for his legs, who challenged Mets first baseman Lucas Duda with a throw to home plate. In a series where the lack of good fundies held the Mets back, Duda’s offline throw became one of the symbolic moments of the team’s ineptitude at doing all of the small things well while the Royals thrived. Hosmer scored to tie the game at 2 and send the battle into extra innings.

Clearly, the Royals’ promotional department hasn't forgotten about the 2015 World Series or the opponent. The Mets only travel to Kansas City every other year now. On the 10-year anniversary, they couldn’t help but to throw a little bit of shade.

What do they have planned for the 20-year anniversary? A hologram of Salvador Perez perhaps? Start brainstorming now.
